The Apple iPhone 3G is finally all set to debut in India on the August 22nd 2008. The GSM providers Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are the first telecom majors to launch it in the country. The speciality of the phone being the subsidized price in USA and other countries may not be realised in India though. There is word that the handset will be priced at around Rs. 20,000. The Indian telecom companies will not be able to subsidize the cost of the handset since they are unable to charge the users hefty call charges for usage. The call charges for usage in the USA on plans with the subsidized phone go as high as 25cents a minute. The per minute charge incurred by the user in India is not even 1/10th of that. |
